CIPHR System Resources

CIPHR provides the informatics foundation for optimizing cancer outcomes in North Carolina and beyond by linking and accessing multiple population, clinical, and other data sources. The CIPHR system development team is responsible for developing multiple research support computing systems.

Virtual Computing Environment for Data Analysis (2014)

CIPHR has partnered with UNC Information Technology Service and Research Computing to build a new, state-of-the-art, virtual computing environment that offers secure and flexible remote access to a highly secure, closed environment.

CIPHR Interactive Clinical Coding Reference System

This coding reference technology is a web platform that captures equivalences between various clinical coding standards such as ICD-9-CM, ICD-10-CM, ICD-O-3 Site & Morphology, CPT, HCPCS BRAND/GENERIC, ATC, NDC, LOINC, and SNOMET CT. The system uniquely combines, standardizes and normalizes the structures of these coding standards to enable fast access, Google-like searching and storage of clinical coding information. It also enables collaboration between investigators and programmers starting with automating the creation of code lists all the way to the generation of SAS code.

Project Management and Tracking Web System

The CIPHR project management and tracking system is a web-based application that allows groups to manage and track studies/projects in accordance with their data governance policies. CIPHR system developers tailor each implementation of the tracking system to the particular organization. The CIPHR project management and tracking system is currently supporting several research initiatives at UNC, including the North Carolina-Louisiana Prostate Cancer Project (PCaP), the Health Registry / Cancer Survivorship Cohort (HRCSC), and UNCseq

Additional Computing Resources

CIPHR can also provide access to our professional programmers and study coordinators, including PhD, and Masters-trained analysts, epidemiologists, and research associates. We maintain a full complement of sophisticated software applications for statistical analysis, project management, mapping, web publishing, graphics production, and data management that are conducted in both centralized and microcomputing environments and have available the microcomputer versions of SAS, SPSS, Stata, and Lisrel. Multiple data linking programs and epidemiologic and econometric software programs are also used. Data are stored and accessed in a dedicated, secure computing environment controlled by the implemented CIPHR specific HIPAA compliant procedures.
